The Seattle Band Map is a project by a KEXP host, a local musician/ screenprinter/poster designer, and a UW computer science student. It's an interactive graphical presentation of the local music scene and that shows the connections between bands that have shared a member, played at least one show together, or collaborated on a recording.
Search for a local band you like and you will find it in a web of relationships with other bands. It's a great way to discover new music. A wiki-like function allows you to submit additional bands or connections between bands for consideration to be added.
Its creators call it a cartographic study of musical incest but it is a fascinating illustration of how the complex interrelationships in local music scenes contribute to their vitality. BP
