A very warm welcome to the newest element on the periodic table, Ununbium (Uub). Ununbium was first identified in 1996 by Sigurd Hofmann and several other researchers at the Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung (GSI) and just received official recognition in early June 2009. According to Sam Kean at Slate, it's been a long journey for the heavy metal.
